WELCOME TO PORTAFERRY

Susan Tomelty

Singer, Songwriter & Musician

From the renowned Portaferry theatrical and musical family, (see Joe Tomelty) Susan Tomelty started her career as a two year old performer at Cork Opera House, the youngest ever to appear there. From classical piano at an early age, her interests developed through studies in Celtic Harp and Percussion. Having studied in Scotland for five years, her love for Ireland and in particular her home town of Portaferry and the surrounding Strangford Lough area has brought her home to concentrate on her song-writing. She released her first album 'Belfast Live' in 1996 and she is currently experimenting with the ethnic roots of all the varieties of music she enjoys.

Belfast Live, a post cease-fire CD, was recorded "live", to a warm audience at The Errigle Inn in Belfast. Internationally renowned artist Susan Tomelty adds her dazzling jazz sound of silky vocals and sultry twists to eleven recordings ranging from traditional and folk to the blues. With songs like "My Lagan Love" and Sam Cooke's "You Send Me" Susan and fourteen of Northern Ireland's finest musicians have developed this diverse, entertaining and highly-acclaimed Belfast Live CD. It is a tribute to all the musicians who kept love and hope alive in Northern Ireland during its dark times over the last twenty-five years.
